Buffer Stocks
Buffer stocks are small supplier of goods placed before and after each proces either by machine or hand. The benefit of buffer stocs is to reduce delays caused by workers waiting for the next work-piece.
In furniture manufacturer, generally there are raw and production process. Production process are treatment, sanding, colouring, acessorising, and packing. Buffer stocks is used to avoid delay between them and daily basis paid workers are always have works to be done.
In designing buffer stocks we should:
- Minimize the floor space taken by the buffer
- Ensure easy maintenance, transport dan replacement
- Choose the appropriate quantity for the buffer
- Store work-pieces in systematic manner so we can see what is available easily
Buffer stocks management is needed to avoid production process getting stucked. Production Plan and Inventory Control (PPIC) should be easily handle this since it is a part of their job or can be transfered.
